The
Gibraltar Pedigree Dog Owners Club was the first Canine club
to be formed in Gibraltar. It was later, in March 1986, when
the Gibraltar Pedigree Dog Owners Club changed its' name to
the Gibraltar Kennel Club. A studbook was started and Open Shows
were organised, with the first one held on the 19th October
1986.
It
was later followed by four other open shows up to 1990. They
started off as small shows of around 150 to 200 dogs, but
as years went by and word got around, these numbers started
increasing.
So
far the Gibraltar Kennel Club has successfully organised 25
International Dow Shows. In 2006 we attracted a total number
of 954 entries over two days of competition.
Sponsored
by The Governmenmt of Gibraltar Tourist Board the Gibraltar
Dog Show 2006 attracted over 2100 visitors to the shows.
The 32nd and
33rd International held on the 18th and 19th
September 2010 had a total of entries exceeding 2500.
The
Gibraltar Kennel Club is now busy organising its 34th and
35th International show which is scheduled for 17th and 18th
September 2011. |
